weigh in wednesday 25 aug 10

looks like the scale says 158. right? maybe 159?? still, i'll take it.

i'd like to see more weight loss. i seem to be stalling. i know i know..... move more. ugh....... i just seem to be lacking motivation to overcome inertia. actually, i feel like i'm lacking motivation period. ever have those blue days?....... i'm stuck in a blue month.

this is good accountability. :) so, i will continue to share despite feeling vulnerable.

i pray that you are having bright days............... health, peace and sweet content be yours (shakespeare).

happy wednesday.

texas sized yoga class

texas size yoga class, originally uploaded by *** coleyB ***.
saturday, august 21 we celebrated world grooves weekend with a texas sized yoga class at dallas cowboy stadium.

i love yoga.

there were about 400 yogis..... of all ages .... a few toddlers to teens to my mom's friend who is nearly 80 years old (she mostly wanted to tour cowboy stadium). vibram boy and i have been doing yoga 2 times a week this summer. i couldn't talk v.b. into the cowboy stadium event.............. and no, he could not care less about being at the stadium............

so, i went with a few friends from class. we got there nice and early and knew everyone else that showed up early. i think it was knowing people and being early, that somehow landed us front and center. litearlly. front row (um..... i am definitely not a front row person. i'm more of a back row-er). on the 50 yard line. ok, that was kinda cool. i just did yoga on the 50 yard line of dallas cowboy stadium. even my dad and brother's will think that's cool.

set up

brooke hinkle from indigo yoga led our class.

wade morisette........... twin brother to alanis morisette (yes, really)...... played music during yoga and then led us through some core work and savasana. then some kirtan (sing along yogi style).

wade morisette

wade morisette

it was kinda fun. i've been to lots of yoga classes. even live music classes. but doing this kind of big event and the kirtan at the end....... it just gives you that feeling of community. like we are bigger than we are. brooke kept talking about feeling "the shift" inside, so we could be "the shift" to the rest of the world. good words to live by.

this summer we have been doing hot, power, vinyasa yoga..... baron baptiste syle. i love it. the heat allows for that deep, warm stretch. aaahhh...... it feels so good. breathe. sweat. a lot of sweat.

and unrelated to saturday's events, vibram boy bought me some yoga treats!!!! can i get a "woot!!!"? 2 (not 1, but 2!!) tops from lululemon and the mat. the mat. it's also by lululemon and is the first truly non-slip mat i've ever found!!! it is ah.mazing. and i love it. it will change my yoga forever. i can't wait to sweat it out!!!

lululemon treats!

happy stretching. breathing. sweating. laughing. and shifting.
happy sunday.

weigh in wednesday 18 aug 10

one week. no change. well maybe +/- 1/2 lb. i can live with that. ok, i'd rather have lost another 2 lbs.

it's also pms week. blergh. i know that's a bit personal. but, if i take that into account, the week i usually am up ~2 lbs ("water weight", right?), then, really maintaining last weeks weight is pretty good.

just a short update. keep it up.

how's your week?

happy wednesday.

beggs and acon.

beggs and acon., originally uploaded by *** coleyB ***.
so i thought i'd share a few of my favorite primal meals!!! oh man, let's just start by saying i heart bacon.

we eat eggs and bacon 2 or 3 times a week. we affectionately call it beggs and acon. yum! ................ you should know, vibram boy does all the cooking. God bless him................. he cooks the bacon in the oven. eggs? well it just depends. scrambled. fried. omelets. hard boiled. whatever. they are delish! vibram boy's scrambled eggs are ah.mazing. he adds a little milk or cream to keep 'em fluffy. and he swears the secret to amazing scrambled eggs is to cook them slowly over a lower heat. patience. yummy-licious. and always add cheese.

a few other favorites.........
stuffed peppers. and stuffed squash. this was inspired after a morning at the farmer's market where there was a recipe for squash stuffed with sausage. we didn't even keep that recipe, we just decided to wing it...... but that was the inspiration. we bought some lovely squash. and peppers. v.b. whips up some ground italian sausage, tomato paste and seasonings. stuffs the peppers (or squash) with cream cheese at the bottom, then the sausage mix, topped with more cheese. sometimes it has more of a mexican flair. sometimes italian. always super de.lish. i could eat this every night for dinner. and it's the kind of super de.lish that gets better as a left over!!! day 2 is ahmazing. :)

stuffed peppers

last week we made bacon wrapped, cream cheese filled jalapenos. they were spicy. whoa. oh, but so yummy!!! we did full jalapenos, instead of halves. we'll try halves this week. oohh.... and maybe stuff the jah.lepenos with sausage too!!!

we have a delicious primal pizza...... we like the almond flour crust best. i like the cauliflower crust ok too, but v.b. likes the almond flour crust best. toppings.... whatever you're in the mood for. if you have all your ingredients, making your own pizza really doesn't take that much more time than ordering from a gluten/greasy/salty pizza shop. and, ours is primal and even yummier!

pizza!!!

i have to admit we did try the meatza pizza......... a meat crust for your pizza. it was good, but...... it tasted like a yummy meatloaf. not a yummy pizza. sometimes i want pizza (mom said i'd out grow my love for pizza. hm. not yet.).

another favorite is just a tapas kinda dinner.......... cheese, salami, olives, etc. it's fast. it's easy. it's delicious. set up the t.v. to watch a few episodes from season 1 of "freaks and geeks" and have a plate of tapas. perfect.

cheese and salami

oohh... classic cabbage and sausage. i could eat 2 lbs. of this. i try not to eat at work for lunch. just at home for dinner. cabbage is stinky. :) but i have recently decided i love sausage almost (almost) as much is i love bacon. so this is another meal i could eat over and over. and over.

v.b.'s favorite......... 40 cloves of garlic chicken. he roasts a whole chicken with 40 cloves of garlic. it is delicious. and garlic-y. it also is a super yummy leftover dinner.

and last, but most certainly not least, spaghetti squash as spaghetti. i miss spaghetti dearly, so this has become my solace. v.b. makes our own spaghetti sauce. a little italian sausage. somedays i add ricotta cheese, some days i don't. i always add parmesean.

so, i know when talking about primal eating everyone dairy products can create heated discussions. for now we are ok with dairy. no digestive problems with dairy and we don't over do it.

for my friends who think i'm crazy for giving up grains....... i always say it's worth the bacon!!!

what are some of your favorite primal meals???

happy monday!!!!
vibram girl

p.s. confession........ i don't like fish. any fish. but..... i am really trying to overcome this. for now, i'm using mental imagery to face my fears. this is a slow process and will take time. but i'm working on it. one day.
one day.

weigh in wednesday. aug 11.

i'm gonna go with 159 1/2 lbs .......... right?

well, it's a good 2 lbs. less from last week!!! woot!!!

no big changes in my eating. i guess i tried to cheat less. ;) we did yoga on tuesday, but missed thursday's class.

my clothes are fitting better. noticeably better. even my skivvies..... really. how's that for encouraging!!??

i've never been one to really follow my weight or watch the scales. watching the scale can be discouraging. such small changes. but, to also see a difference in the mirror, and in my clothes, and complements at work.......... that is really nice. makes me want to eat better and move more and see what can really happen!!

i've also set a few goals.......... when i reach 155 lbs. i'm buying myself a treat..........this super cute yoga skort by beckon's organic clothing ........... is next week too soon?? it's just so cute. and i love skorts.

beckon's organic yoga skort!

and me and vibram boy are going to primal con 2011!! can i get a high five!?!?! who else is going!?!? and what could be more motivating than that!?!?!?

bring it on primal con!!!

happy wednesday.

laundry soap!!

not only did we make our own laundry soap, we also made a multi-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner and yoga mat cleaner!

woot!

green, eco-friendly, cheap, and yummy.

most the recipes were from an old issue of mary jane's farm magazine. the yoga mat recipe was from re-nest.

ingredients

for the powdered laundry soap..........
1 bar (4-6oz) castile soap. grated.
2 cups borax
2 cups washing soda (sodium carbonate)
1 cup baking soda
essential oils
.............. recommend use is 1/4 - 1/2 cup per load.

all of the ingredients can be found at most grocers or discount stores. walmart had the washing soda............. which is sodium carbonate............. in their pool care section (weird, right?). i have seen it at our grocery store in the detergent aisle. so, you might have to hunt it down, but it should be readily available.

i guess the essential oils would be the hardest ingredient to find. try your local natural food store...... like a whole foods or sprouts. i have a lovely collection of some "essential" essential oils (lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree, lemongrass, etc), for occasions like this!

grated castille soap

grated castile soap

yes, i grated the castile soap in our food processor. it was vibram boy's idea! genius! really..... it worked amazingly well! and as vibram boy said........"why not? it's just soap?" :)

the recipe called for unscented castile soap. we used lavender anyways........... but, i also knew that lavender would be one of our base scents. remember, a bar of castile soap ... not liquid .... this recipe is for a "powder" laundry detergent.

washing soda and borax

mixed all the dry ingredients together.

mixing in essential oils

after we made the laundry soap, robbo took it upon himself to keep going ...... and mixed a glass cleaner and multi-purpose cleaner too! (cute, huh?) we had empty spray bottles.... which were perfect.

and since doing hot yoga, i've been meaning to make a yoga mat cleaner. so, it was perfect timing. i used lavender and tea tree essential oils. tea tree and lavender are both naturally anti-bacterial. those mats need it!

yoga mat cleaner............
- 1 part warm water with 3 parts white vinegar

- add 8 - 12 drops of essential oil like eucalyptus, lemongrass, lavender, mint or tea tree oil.

original recipe at re-nest.

this is all part of our process of living a primal, sustainable lifestyle. as we run out of our conventional cleaners and soaps, we are starting to replace them with homemade products. no more sodium laurel sulfate, parabens, pthalates, harsh chemicals and who knows what else.

part of me is ready to throw out all the store bought, harsh soaps, cleansers and lotions. but, conserving and not wasting.... is just as important. so, i will use what i have until i have tilted my bottles upside down and used q-tips to clean out every last drop.

my next goal is also to get my laundry soap to smell like caldrea's basil and blue sage.... mmmmmmmm

happy sunday.
coley

p.s. so far, the cleansers all seem to work.
